Attorney Bill Thompson of Florida felt he made the first step in bringing justice forth over a 3 year international fight. The ruling in civil court, has opened the doors to be able to proceed with other actions. Thompson stated “with a civil judgement in hand I will proceed to have a criminal court accept the facts in this case and seek criminal actions against ALL parties”.

The matter before the court was a civil action against a US couple living in Belize that Jim Jensen had made investments with. The focus of the action which the couple failed to appear as defendants, an Investment Jensen made in a Liquor business in Punta Gorda Belize named in the filing as “Adiferous Wine and Liquor’s”. Court records indicate and evidence submitted that Jensen invested over $35,000 BZ in the couples Liquor venture in Punta Gorda. Submissions to the courts included a 47 page detailed series of documents that included banks records, wire transfers, loan agreements and e-mails between the parties.

Thompson stated “by the couples failure to appear we had a judgment, I wanted the evidence submitted and accepted by the courts as evidence of fact”. We have that now.

The judge’s ruling found that the $35,000 BZ invested by Jensen was stolen by the America Couple using the excuse that Adiferous Wine and Liquor’s had been robbed. The US couple then collected insurance money for the claimed robbery and never repaid Jensen for the $35,000 BZ investment which represents the inventory the US couple claimed was stolen. They, the US couple collected the money, closed the Liquor store and sold the building before actions could be taken to stop them.

Further in the ruling, the Judge also awarded Jensen an additional $10,000 in damage for a loan which Jensen had converted to ownership in the business and another $10,000 for a donation Jensen’s wife Janis had made to a claimed NON profit operation previously ran by the US couple in Belize.

Jim Jensen, a News Anchor At WCBS-TV, Is Dead at 73Jim Jensen, a gravelly voiced and popular WCBS-TV news anchor and news reporter who was a major figure in New York television for years, died on Saturday at Lenox Hill Hospital. He was 73 and lived on the Upper East Side of Manhattan.

The cause was apparently a heart attack, said former colleagues of his at WCBS.

Mr. Jensen was with WCBS from 1964 to 1995. Accounts have differed as to why he left then, but it has been suggested that his contract was not renewed.

He was a news anchor for most of his years with WCBS. He lost his anchor job briefly in the 1980′s but came back in that capacity in the 1990′s. For some years during his tenure at WCBS-TV, it had the most-watched newscasts in the city.

In private life, Jensen had his demons. He turned his bouts with alcohol and Valium into public-service broadcasts. But what really did him in was the changing world of local TV news. The 70′s brought the proliferation of Eyewitness News — happy-talk broadcasts devised by consultants like Frank Magid Associates. In the new local news, there was no Top Dog but an egalitarian ”team,” assembled to win over the full diversity of Nielsen demographics. There were jokes and casual repartee, to flatter viewers into thinking they were part of the TV family. There were no authority figures, no stentorian voices. On the new news, no one even pretended that journalism was a required skill. Putting Jim Jensen in such an environment would have been tantamount to making Judge Judy a regular on ”The View.”

Jim Jensen Returning To Channel 2

 Jim Jensen, a former Channel 2 news anchor, will conduct interviews with some of the mayoral candidates for the station’s Sunday morning ”Newsmakers” program, the station announced yesterday.

Mr. Jensen left Channel 2 in late February to undergo treatment for depression. The station then announced that upon his return, Mr. Jensen would have the title of senior correspondent. A spokesman for the station said yesterday that for the time being, Mr. Jensen was working exclusively on the half-hour ”Newsmakers” programs.

The first interview, with Mayor Edward I. Koch, is to be taped this week and broadcast on Sunday at 11:30 A.M. In the following weeks Richard Ravitch, Rudolph W. Giuliani, Harrison J. Goldin, David N. Dinkins and Ronald S. Lauder are to be interviewed.

ORT has formally challenged Belize Tourism to a social media duel.  The Belize Tourism Board Action Plan 2010-2012 relies heavily on the deployment of social media marketing to draw international tourists.  Unfortunately, social media is only a vehicle and not the answer to Belize’s core corruption problems.  Once again, Belize is trying to put a veneer on a rotten tooth.  A wobbly and putrid smile won’t charm the tourists it seeks to woo.  Say cheese, Belize.  Your use of social media will only result in more people than ever getting a whiff.

Belize tourism is now synonymous with human trafficking in the social media world. The BTB’s recently released marketing plan leans to a large extent on use of social media to reposition its brand.   It won’t work.  Here’s why.

ORT has ensured human trafficking and Belize tourism are so tightly enmeshed on the Web that any attempts to use social media to reposition that country as a destination of choice will backfire.  We can only hope they carry out their plans with the assistance of their expensive eco tourism consulting company.  If the BTB goes forward with their social media plans they’ll provide a platform for ORT’s technical team to apply all our resources to take advantage of their new gambit. In fact, we plan to use their platform to reinforce our tourism boycott campaign.

Belize paid EplerWoods International $2 million to develop the tourism marketing strategy.  Meanwhile, the Belize government has not spent a penny on its human trafficking issues. ORT and its thousands of followers have petitioned them repeatedly to consider low-cost remedies that address human trafficking at its borders.  As well, our committed followers have exhorted them to enforce their own prostitution laws, which they could do at very little expense.  It’s not clear how much they will spend on hiring a social media company to steward their online marketing redirect.  We will watch with interest to see the results of the request for proposal that’s gone out to social media consulting firms.  The new tourism strategy called for a commitment to transparency so, in that spirit, we will assume that fees will be publicly disclosed for the social media company of record.

Our social media marketing campaign has cost us zero dollars, yet it’s been very effective.  Use any large search engine to search keywords, “Vivian Trill,” “Belize Tourism Boycott” or “Belize Human Trafficking” and you will get the idea.  We are darned sure that the social media companies jockeying for the Belize tourism contract have done so by now.  ORT’s efforts have now generated about 1 billion indexed pages over a few months.  These companies will understand what that means and appreciate exactly what they are up against.  If they say it’s easy our advice to Belize is to strike them from your vendor contender list immediately.

We have no choice but to wait and see how much more the Belize government will pay to consultants instead of working with us in partnership free-of-charge.  We have made clear in our blogs that we offered to work with Belize Tourism CEO Mike Singh to position Belize as an anti-trafficking champion, a move that would attract positive world attention and the deserved tourism bounty that would follow.  Instead, concurrent with our discussions, Mike Singh’s hired guns were consulting broadly within the Belize tourism sector to prepare the recently released strategy.

We stand by our commitment to work with Belize to position it as an anti-human trafficking champion and a global tourism destination of choice.  Our command of social media is clear and our price point is unbeatable.

And yet, Belize chooses to give millions of dollars to foreign consultants while their inadequately funded and corrupt police force lets their citizens go unprotected. This is happening while Belize’s growing crime index mounts, including spiraling murder rates.   All this money going to international companies while there is no financial commitment to address porous and corrupt border practices that allow a constant stream of trafficked women into forced prostitution.

ORT’s technical team has used social media to bring thousands of global followers to the conclusion the Belize tourism boycott is warranted and should stand.  Here’s our message to the Belize Tourism Board, to the pricey EplerWoods International and the costly social media consulting firm that’s finally hired.   If your aim is to spend millions on social media to bring tourism to Belize shores, we will use all our demonstrated, pro bono skills and expertise to reinforce the Belize tourism boycott.  And we will use your own social media platform to do it.  Wheels are already in motion.

Recently, more than 2.6 tons of cocaine literally fell out of the sky on a road near Punta Gorda when a narco twin engine made an emergency landing.  Arrested in the aftermath were seven police officers and one customs officer implicated in the unscheduled arrival of the estimated $140-million cargo.

This latest news installment joins reports of big drug plane busts in a Corozal village, one in Caye Caulker and another in the Northern Two Caye on the Lighthouse Reef atoll.  All got into Belize airspace with the help of paid government officials and their “business” partners.

The Punta Gorda incident tops off a string of reported Belize national security breaches, all indicative of the systemic corruption that continues to characterize this country as a dangerous home for its citizens and perilous destination for tourists.    It’s the same brand of corruption that allows human traffickers easy passage for their “products” through Belize borders.

Followers of this blog will know that that we revealed a DEA map showing that San Pedro Ambergris Caye and other seaside locations in Belize are busy access points for the drug trade.  It’s mostly cocaine, on its way from South America to the US.   We also pointed out that there were more than 100 drug-linked murders in Belize last year.  This flies in the face of the Belize Tourism Board’s come-ons to enjoy sunny beach holidays.

There’s more over the air in Belize.  It’s ironic that a recent well-publicized aerial shot of a beach art installation on Sergeant’s Caye got a lot of traction worldwide for its inclusion in the eco documentary “Harmony.”  Overhead photographers capturing the bird’s-eye-view of the eco shore graffiti could just have easily spotted planes full of drugs and/or illegal passengers, their flights greased with bribery dollars for Belize officials.

News coverage of Belize immigration rackets continues apace.  In this blog, I’ve reported on the many Belize channels for easy immigration scamming. It’s the same sanctioned criminality that allows the famous “Expeditor” to maintain a lucrative business providing everything from passport stamps to residency status for those who can pay.

It’s clear the latest stories on human smuggling activities relate directly back to people like the “Expeditor,” many of them located in Belize embassies.  For a fee these embassy officials in Cuba, Dominican Republic and Haiti, for example, work with their own government to produce visas for foreign nationals.  Once in Belize, the short-term “visitors” can use their Belize visa to more easily enter the US, Canada and elsewhere.

This sleazy system got some unwanted spotlight this fall when three flights, all using Haiti as the take-off point, brought a combined 34 Chinese nationals to Belize.   Previously, phony visas were also issued through the same embassy bribery system to Japanese and Sri Lankan travelers.  These are the ones that got reported on.  It’s just the thin edge of the wedge.

I’m talking about the peculiar homegrown appetite for graft among Belize authorities that never gets dealt with.   No one at the top gets even so much as a knuckle wrapped when it’s obvious that they are responsible.  Small players, such as police rank and file and the odd customs officer, take the blame.  No one at the top takes responsibility for what their news media are calling a national security system in great peril.  It’s a loud message saying that Belize’s citizens continue to go unprotected by its government and a national security department, a force that escapes accountability for his actions or lack of them.

Remarkably, these news reports, which chronicle a deeply rotten national security system, appear at the same time Belize has released its latest strategy to attract tourists. The “Belize Tourism Board Action Plan 2010-12” calls for deployment of social media to increase Belize tourism.  ORT plans to continue its own deployment of social media, using it to equate Belize travel with endorsement of human trafficking.  We will also continue to remind potential tourists that Belize is under tourism boycott and that they travel there at great personal risk.
